MEET MICHAEL
Michael Bennet is deeply rooted by his moral obligation to leave Colorado a better place for our children and our future generations. As an outstanding businessman, public servant and superintendent for Denver Public Schools, Michael has built a reputation and track record as someone who is willing to work will anyone in Washington to achieve the greater good for our nation.
Over the past six years as a U.S. Senator, Michael has improved Colorado’s economy, restored local control of schools, written compromises to fix our fractured immigration system, critiqued his colleagues in the wake of potential government shutdowns, pushed to simplify the application process for student aid, and worked with Colorado’s congressmen and congresswomen to allow veterans who live far away from VA clinics to receive their care from closer hospitals.
Michael’s family heritage has led him to become a leader for education reform while in Washington. As a son of a retired elementary school librarian, and as a father to three young girls, Caroline, Halina, and Anne, Michael believes that every student should have the opportunity to receive the same education. Michael has fought to successfully increase funding for Pell Grants and has supported income-based student loan repayment. Michael proved to be instrumental in rewriting No Child Left Behind and replace it with a bipartisan law that rewards schools, teachers and children for their performance in the classroom and allows teachers to help our children succeed academically.
Michael prides himself in cutting through partisanship to achieve real results for Colorado. Michael hopes that he can continue to represent Coloradans as a pragmatic, innovative and passionate leader that Colorado deserves and plans to create progress for a state that is near and dear to his heart.
