MEET RICHARD

Sen. Richard Burr is deeply rooted by his moral obligation to leave North Carolina a better place for our children and future generations. As an outstanding businessman, public servant, and native of North Carolina, Richard has built a reputation and track record as someone who’s passion in Washington will achieve the greater good for our nation.

Throughout the past 12 years as a U.S. Senator, Richard has improved North Carolina’s economy, written compromises  to fix our fractured immigration system, critiqued his colleagues that have supported Obamacare, overseen our U.S. intelligence agencies to insure that they are working to keep our country safe, and he has worked across the aisle with Republicans and Democrats to allow veterans who live far away from VA clinics to receive their care from closer hospitals.

Richard’s family heritage has led him to become a servant leader for North Carolina while in Washington. He is the son of a church minister in Winston-Salem who served our country in World War II and Richard’s mother was an elementary school teacher who understood the value of education and its power to lift people out of poverty. Richard attended Wake Forrest University in Winston-Salem where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Communications.

After receiving his degree, Richard spent 17 years as a sales manager for Carswell Distributing Company, a distributor of lawn equipment. During his time in equipment sales, Richard found that the policies instituted by our government only held back people trying to work their way up, and decided to run to represent North Carolina’s Fifth District in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1994. Richard has consecutively represented the people of North Carolina for over 22 years.

Richard prides himself in achieving real results for North Carolina year after year. Richard hopes that he can continue to represent North Carolinians as a pragmatic, innovative and passionate leader that North Carolina deserves and plans to continue create progress for a state that is near and dear to his heart.
